My TRS is the member portal for active members and benefit recipients.

Who are active members?

An active member is any current or former educator in Montana who has an account balance with TRS and who has not yet applied for a retirement benefit. (Former educators who withdrew membership from TRS -- i.e., cashed out their contributions -- cannot use My TRS.)

Who are benefit recipients?

Benefit recipients are those over age 18 who receive a monthly payment from TRS. Retirees, of course, are benefit recipients, as are survivors who continue to receive benefits after the retiree's death, such as a designated beneficiary or Joint Annuitant. (Survivors who received a lump-sum payment after the retiree's death cannot use My TRS.)

Why should active members and benefit recipients use My TRS?

oActive members can view their account balance, contribution history, and creditable service; review and update their designated beneficiaries; review and update their mailing address and contact information; estimate their future retirement benefits (if vested), and more!

oBenefit recipients can review their monthly benefit amount, estimate their tax withholding, view or print 1099-R tax forms, view the mailing address and other contact information, currently on file with TRS, and more.

Note: For security reasons, benefit recipients cannot make changes to their mailing address, tax withholding, or other information online in My TRS or over the phone. Such changes must be submitted to TRS in writing to protect against fraud, such as unauthorized changes that would redirect a recipient's payment to another address or bank account. Contact TRS at (866) 600-4045 to obtain any necessary forms.
